Project Type: Co-op
Duration: July-December 2022
Skills Applied: OnShape CAD & Drawings, Propel PLM, Plastic Injection Molding, Silicone Compression Molding, Static FEA
Summary: Redesigned and tested various cartridge components to improve on dispense of resin compared to V1 Formlabs resin cartridge currently on sale. Areas of personal focus were on dispense and venting, while also developing testing setups and methods for components.

Original Formlabs Resin Cartridge (V1).

Challenges:
 - Increase flow of varying-viscosity resin out of cartridge
 - Find optimal venting method
 - Ensure material compatibility with resin
 - Ensure components survive various thermal conditions

Formlabs Resin Cartridge V1 bite valve.

Solutions:
 - Updated bite valve geometries
 - Developed testing procedures and rigs with SOPs for each
 - Tested various venting options for resin compatibility
 - Redesigned skirt using static FEA and rapid prototyping

Results:
 - *To be updated when product is released*

Learnings:
 - Design for plastic injection molding and silicone compression molding
 - Getting DFM feedback from vendors
 - How to use Propel PLM to track CAD iterations
